Barbara Thompson’s Website Content

ADMIN NOTE: The following text has been taken from archived files from the website Barbara Thompson had setup during her campaign for the school board in the past elections. Similarly to www.perryschools.info website, the sites were taken offline shortly before/after the lawyers were brought in to investigate Dr. Williams. In case you missed it the first time, here’s the content of her website before being taken offline. Regretfully, she had posted some content of letters that were in an image format and were not archived with the rest of the content. Don’t ask me why the page title’s don’t make sense, I grabbed them directly from the archives in the format and page titles that were provided.

I wanted to share a recent experience with you. Please take the opportunity to view a letter that I recently addressed to our current School Board Members on January 25, 2006. The content of the letter is extremely serious to my family.

Not one of the current Board Members responded to my e-mail. Do not misunderstand; it is never the function of a School Board Member to bring correction to a situation of this nature. The function of a Board Member is to elevate such concerns to the appropriate administration. I expected a response in some form and received nothing.

You see one of the named reasons for drop outs of Perry Township is fear. Children should not be afraid to attend school. The letter grade earned for the concern offered by our current School Board is F for failure to care!

A follow up e-mail was sent by Mr. Thompson on January 30 and his e-mail did generate a response from our current School Board President, Mrs. Marsha Hicks. She stated “Unfortunately, I did not receive your Jan. 26 e-mail.” (Reference my letter and you will find that Mrs. Marsha Hicks did in fact receive the letter e-mailed on January 25)

Note that Mrs. Marsha Hicks did copy Dr. Williams in her response to Mr. Thompson.

Are you wondering if Dr. Williams contacted Mr. Thompson or me?

NO!

I would guess that blows the content of Mrs. Marsha Hicks e-mail, suggesting “our Superintendent Dr. Williams, will work with you.”

Hello, my name is Barbara Thompson and I am running for Perry Township School Board. I have over twenty years of experience in the Insurance Industry in multiple capacities. Currently, my position as a Senior Auditor with a mutual group of underwriters requires skills of contract interpretation and ensuring that the Administrators are following the contracts put in place by the Employer Group that we insure. Reviewing catastrophic medical claims for accuracy and appropriateness is another function t hat I perform. The skills that I hold can also be applied in the duties required of a School Board Member.

Over the last few years I have been involved in facilitating many different group studies in my home. Community involvement is a key to fulfillment in life and I certainly have had this opportunity. The involvement also sets a great example for your children to follow as they carry on your legacy. My strongest personal quality is the gift of compassion and I believe that this is a quality that would also be of great service to the community as a School Board Member.

My greatest life achievement is my family. We have been in the Perry Township community since 1993. My daughter Jennifer is a 2002 Perry Meridian graduate and my sons, Jared and Marcus are both students in Perry Meridian Middle School. Jennifer was the Perry Meridian Yearbook Editor and truly enjoyed her time in Perry Township schools. Jared and Marcus were both on the Middle School Golf Team this last season. We have much more school ahead of us, which is another reason I feel such a strong need to be a School Board Member.

Every child deserves the same opportunity for a good education. As an adult, I am an advocate for my children and I am willing to be an advocate for every deserving child in the Perry Township School System. Educating children is not just my responsibility; it is the responsibility of the Teachers and Administrators as we all make up the community. Allowing our children to fail is not an option and I want to serve my community and aide in meeting the educational needs of our children. The children we educate today are the adults of our community tomorrow.

Thank you in advance for the support that you will offer to me by voting in the Primary Election being held on May 2, 2006.

MY AGENDA

  • I will not be a rubberstamp for tax increases. I feel it is about quality of education not just the quantity. More money has not generated better results. Perry Township receives more money per student than our counterparts do and still we are failing. Appearance cannot be substituted for success.
  • With a 40% dropout in 2005, we need to refocus our attention on children who are having problems. Education is not for a selected group. Education is for all children regardless of their race, gender, geographical make up or the financial status of their parents.
  • With 40% of our children unable to read and do basic math proficiently, I feel this is a direct correlation with the dropout rate. I would like to see a push for more class time on reading programs and reading comprehension. Reading is the corner stone for success.
  • The educational needs of our children cannot be met when teachers are forced to take instructional time away for unnecessary tasks. I want to standardize reading and math programs to ensure all teachers are on the same program to bring some continuity to our education process. Changing of programs every year does nothing more than create confusion!
  • Providing a safe environment for our children to flourish and grow is a priority. Allowing children to be assaulted and taking a say-nothing and do-nothing approach is not acceptable. I personally will not tolerate this type of response from the Administration.
  • I will make myself available to hear your concerns. I will be the parent and the children’s advocate. You should be heard and if elected I would listen. Your tax dollars pay the salaries.
  • Our teachers should be heard, as their input is imperative. For example, what should or what should not be removed from the curriculum. How does it affect the classroom? The teachers are not there just to present the lessons, they are there to teach our children and they should have a voice.

Help me, help our children and help our community.

Elect Barbara Thompson for Perry Township School Board.

I have children in the Perry Township School System. I have a stake in everything that is put to vote. I have no interest in a social club. I have great interest in the future of our children. Thank you in advance for your vote.

That’s funny, because I believe it has been the intent of the board majority to STIFLE the parents and teachers! The board majority, including the “compassionate” Barbara Thompson, has closed their ears and refused to listen! The board majority called the teachers “mediocre”. In the words of Mrs. Thompson, “What’s with YOU PEOPLE??” Well, WE PEOPLE simply want to be heard, as she promised!!

Thank you for giving us all a chance to review the incriminating, slanderous and libelous website. I noted the timing of the removal of the website content with the hiring of the lawyer for the school board. This website alone is proof enough that Susan Adams had pre-judged Dr. Williams’ innocence or guilt in the issues that the gang of four has charged him with.

The website also reinforces my notion that the Gang of Four are in way over their heads. They simply do not have the judgment, discernment or leadership ability to run this large, growing township. I believe that even a high school Junior or Senior would have the judgment skills to NOT post this web site publicly. I am not being critical; I am just stating the obvious. If Ms Adams and her other three majority members would resign, they would all be doing our community a great favor.

As a retired naval officer, I had the unfortunate opportunity to see several officers relieved for cause. These officers simply did not have the skill or judgment abilities to lead their units. There is a distinct similarity to this situation.
