Board Meeting Reminder for this Monday

This upcoming Monday is the next school board meeting. Please try to attend if possible. The meeting will once again be held in the board room at the PTEC building (6548 Orinoco Avenue). Having the meetings at PTEC instead of at Southport High School allows the four school board members to do “their business” in front of a much smaller audience. There will be an overflow area in the PTEC gym for those who do not get there early enough to be seated in the board room. Limited tickets for board room seating are given out on a first come, first serve basis. Our goal is to have as many TBPS members as possible get there early. The meeting starts at 6:30 pm. Your best chance of getting a ticket is to get there by 5:00. I know this is a pain, but won’t it be great when our school board president, Mrs. Adams arrives and sees the board room full of the very same orange clad people she
has tried to shut out and avoid?

Limiting Public Access, Wasting Our Tax Dollars, and Misusing Their Power

Having the meetings at the PTEC building requires several Perry families to be inconvenienced because the basketball games scheduled to be played in the PTEC gym have to be reassigned to other Perry
locations. Also, a sound system is rented so people in the overflow gymnasium area can hear what is happening during the meeting. This sound system costs over $2,000 to rent per session. Once again, these four board members are wasting our money and causing difficulty to our community for selfish reasons.

Let’s Speak Out Against These Atrocities

It is important that these four school board members see our resolve and hear from many of us. At the end of the meeting, we hope the board will still allow time for public comment. Please consider signing up to speak so these four board members recognize our strength and unity. It is important for them to see new faces and hear new voices so they cannot claim that their actions are only opposed by a handful of disgruntled people. Even if you cannot get there early enough to be seated in the board room, people in the gym can sign up to speak, as well.

Mrs. Buffie Offers Sensible Proposal but is Rejected by the Gang of Four

At the last meeting, board member JoEllen Buffie presented a proposal to move our township forward and bring some closure and healing. She recommended that Dr. Williams be reinstated as our active superintendent and become immediately involved with mediation with the board. The people in attendance were overwhelmingly in support of Mrs. Buffie’s resolution. However, it was voted down 4-3 with Susan Adams, Nancy Walsh, Barbara Thompson and Rubie Alexander as the “no” votes. These four continue to ignore the wishes of their constituents and seem to enjoy keeping our township in turmoil.

Maybe They Can Get Columbo

Also, at the last board meeting, we found out from Mrs. Adams that an investigation regarding Dr. Williams has not even started, even though she said one had begun in November. The board voted 4-3 to hire another new attorney or team of attorneys to begin an investigation. Our superintendent has been on paid administrative leave for 3 ½ months, and they are just now starting an investigation to find out if he has done anything to warrant their actions. Unbelievable!!

Newspapers Finally Take a Stand

On a positive note, The Indianapolis Star (Feb. 14) and The Southside Times (Feb. 16) both came off the fence and took positions on our current events. They both ran staff editorials titled “Our Position” which support the immediate reinstatement of Dr. Williams. The editorials also recognize that these four board members are grossly misusing their power and wasting Perry tax dollars.

TBPS Signs and Bumper Stickers

If you or anyone you know has recently requested a Take Back Perry Schools sign or bumper sticker, they are on the way. We were waiting on some of the snow to melt and the temperature to warm up a bit so we can easily distribute them.

Much Thanks and Let’s Keep Moving Forward

As always, thanks so much for being involved in this very important cause. Obviously, we are gaining ground since every objective source looking into our situation is coming to the same conclusion. The goals of Take Back Perry Schools have remained consistent throughout. They are:

  1. Immediately reinstate Dr. Williams.
  2. Demand accountability and representation from four of our school board members.

Our commitment to accomplish these two goals is in the best interest of all the stakeholders of Perry Township schools. Attendance at this Monday’s board meeting will once again be important. Please try to arrive early so we can sit together in the actual board room and let’s wear our orange proudly so we can show that we are united and committed to our Perry children, teachers, and administrators!!

$2,000 for sound system rental? Exactly where are they renting from? That is outragous!

Great question to ask the board. To “I have a question”, if you sent the president of the board an email or wrote a letter, I wonder if you would receive a response?

Isn’t Mr. Nicholson who requested it? Why not email him? I am sure you would get a response out of him quicker.

And who said it was $2000?? When has anyone seen an actual receipt or when/where has a board member stated that it was $2000? Where is this information coming from?

I found out this evening that even in the SHS Auditorium, the sound system cost $1600.00 each meeting. So why wasn’t that ever brought up by the concerned parents and teachers before Dr. Williams was fired? Why wasn’t that cost an issue before? In my opinion it is a lot of money to spend on sound when you have high school students who could do just as well.

I seriously doubt that and am verifying. Will post as soon as I receive confirmation. If it’s true, I sure wish I went to high school at Southport. When I was in high school I only got $5/hr to run the lights and sound in our auditorium for after school events.

First of all……..Dr. Williams has NOT been FIRED!! He is on paid administrative leave pending investigation.

Secondly……Why would it have been brought up about sound equipment at SHS auditorium before this issue began with Dr. Williams? That is nonsense. The board meetings took place at the PTEC building prior to all of this issue. With this current situation taking place, the concerned public has flooded the corridors wishing to be present at the meetings, thus necessitating providing accommodations. At first, they provided a poor quality sound system at the PTEC building in the gym with a small TV. It was not adequate, so the meetings were moved to SHS auditorium.

Thirdly……the reason why the SHS sound equipment is not used, according to the school board and Mr. Nichols….is because it does not provide adequate sound. Even when the HS has musicals, they have to rent equipment.

Lastly…..being the coupon shopper that I am……..I still think that $1600 for a sound system in the auditorium where the public can be present in same room sure beats $2000 for sound equipment at the PTEC building where the public is separated!!! That’s a savings of $400 per meeting!!! Just two meetings is more savings than a tenderloin dinner!!!!!!! :0)

Thank you for verifying that information. Either way it is an expense that is not needed/warranted. But if it has been done that way, in the SHS auditorium for an extended period of time, I would hope that the blame for that wouldn’t fall on just the current board. I would wonder how long that amount of money had been spent out on sound equipment for board meetings?

On that note, I would like to personally congratulate all parents/students/and the community for the musical this past weekend at Perry Meridian. Those kids have a lot of talent! Congratulations to all for putting on a wonderful production!

Since we are talking about expenses that are not needed; what about the decision to hire another attorney and an assistant? Correct me if I am wrong, but we now have 3 attorneys and 1 assistant that are being paid or contracted by the township.

Any monies spent for a/v equipment seem insignificant in comparison to the monies that will be spent on the team of attorneys working on behalf of 4 board members.

I think what is very sad is the number of people who want to speak out against the four, but feel their jobs would be in jeopardy if they were to speak out. Yet another person told me of a project that has been scrapped due to these women.

These people ARE affecting the quality of education for our children.
