I recently received an e-mail from Mike Taylor letting me know there was a bit of confusion about whether or not he was the same Michael Taylor that has been active on our site. I wanted to make sure there was no confusion among friends of both individuals about the comments of one being attributed to the other. I’ve included the full text of the e-mail I received from Mike Taylor below, with his permission.Â
Hello Mr. Bean,
I am a second-year teacher at Southport High School. I am trying to grow a college preparatory program and extracurricular team at SHS. It has been brought to my attention that an individual named Michael Taylor has been rather active on your website. He and I share that name. There was another Michael Taylor who worked at Perry Schools - in fact, since teaching at SHS I now go by “Mike” to lessen the confusion - but he has recently been promoted to a higher office in another school district. I’m sure he has worked closely with administration during his career at Perry, and having the pleasure to work with him on several occasions, I found him to be a very thoughtful, engaging individual, and I wish him the best in his new position.
However, I am not him. I have had several of my colleagues comment on what I had “posted” on the website. While I have visited the site a few times, I have never posted. My opinions are my own, and I feel as a teacher new to Perry schools, it is not my place to comment publicly and unsolicited online, in the classroom, or in any other venue. I do not want my colleagues, students, their parents, or administration to believe that I am an active and prominent member of the takebackperryschools movement - another Michael Taylor deserves credit for that. My goal is to educate Perry Township’s children, build a career for myself, and instill in my students a sense of gracious professionalism, respect, and civic duty. As a teacher new to the system, given the current situation, I feel that’s the best I can do. If you would like to know my opinion on the whole school board issue, I’d gladly give it to you in person. Publicly, I’d rather focus on my job and my students, and hope for the best possible solution to the circumstances.Â
Please advise people to continue to support Southport and Perry academic, extracurricular, and athletic programs. After all, students are our priority.
Thank you for your time and have a great day,-Mike
